LEVIN VISIT; REPUBS WRONG AGAIN

If you weren't able to attend Senator Levin's appearance on January 20, 2007, the Ann Arbor News of January 26th has an excellent write up with numerous quotes. Here's the link:

It's an excellent article except for it's reference to the Livingston County Democrats as a "small minority". Our candidate votes ranged from 33 to 44%. That's a sizeable minority and growing.

There are several quotes from the Livingston GOP Chair, and, as so often happens, he is misinformed. Read his quote below.

Livingston County GOP Chairman Allan Filip, reached after Levin's talk for his reaction, said he found it strange that Levin was so critical of Bush's handling of the war. "Didn't (Levin) vote for the war? Yes, he did, so I guess it's a referendum on folks like (Levin) as well,'' Filip said.

Senator Levin did NOT vote for the war. Too bad, Allan, your conclusion is as faulty as your facts. Next time check the record.

Cox' Party Affiliation Left Out in Stories on Adultery Case

Why is that when Republicans get in trouble, their party affiliation seems to disappear?

We already know, from the work of the News Hounds, that when Rep. Mark Foley, R-Florida, got caught sending inappropriate e-mail messages to House pages, Fox News identified him as Democrat on screen at least twice.

So it was no surprise Tuesday (January 16, 2007) that when Fox News got around to discussing the Michigan Court of Appeals ruling dealing with adultery that they would neglect to mention that Michigan Attorney General Michael Cox was a Republican. Cox has admitted to having an affair, and under the Michigan case, he could be subject to felony prosecution. You can see the video and my post on the topic at News Hounds.

But shouldn't the Detroit Free Press, which is a real news organization unlike Fox News, have at least included Cox's party affiliation? Brian Dickerson's column mentions Cox and quotes his spokesman, Rusty Hills, but somehow Dickerson can't find the space to mention that Cox is a Republican.

Perhaps he is assuming that all his readers know that. Guess his editors never told him that when a journalist assumes things he makes an "ass" out of "u" and "me."

Senator Levin to speak in Pinckney

Levin to Speak on Iraq, 100 Hours at Livingston Democrats Victory Fundraiser

BRIGHTON – Michigan Senator Carl Levin will speak on the Iraq war and the Democratic Party’s “First 100 Hours” Agenda at a fund-raiser Saturday, January 20, in Pinckney. The fundraiser is to celebrate the huge Democratic win across the country and the state and to help the Livingston Democrats prepare for the next election cycle.

Levin became chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee when Democrats regained control of the House and Senate in the November 2006 election. In that role, Levin is in a pivotal position to influence the war in Iraq.

“This will be one of the first opportunities that many Michigan residents will have to hear Senator Levin in person commenting on President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Iraq. It is an important moment in the national debate over American participation in the war, and Livingston County Democrats will not want to miss it,” said Matt Evans, chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party.

Furthermore, Evans said, the national party’s 100-hour agenda that already is moving through the U.S. House addresses important concerns that voters raised in the November election including raising the minimum wage, congressional ethics reform, and restraining earmarks that encouraged irresponsible spending. Levin will be able to shed light on how that agenda will fare in the U.S. Senate.

Levin will speak at 12:30 p.m. at the Whispering Pines Golf Course, 2500 Whispering Pines Drive, Pinckney. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.
