The Real Hazard to America

I was in Washington D.C. on Monday to speak out on our privitized healthcare system. Myself along with my SiCKO sister Donna Smith, and 150 other concerned Americans stood outside the Capital Hilton Hotel; where the American Health Insurance Providers were conducting a conference, on how to manage profit. We had bull horns, signs, and best of all Donna and I dressed in Hazmat suits. We held caution tape around the front of the building, because the real hazard to America was inside.

We protested for an hour. That was long enough for them to get mad at us for disrubting their conference just as Newt Gingrich was speaking. I even got on the mega phone and told them how upset I was that our president gets excellent health care at our expense, yet my daughter can’t get on MI-Child, because he vetoed the SCHIP expansion last year.

The cops were there, but no one was arrested. In fact one cop gave us the thumbs up. There were reporters from the papers, but no big networks. It was truly an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

Later on in the evening, a handful of people gathered at the reflecting pool to light candles and mourn those who have lost their lives because of our broken healthcare system. It was not as big as last year, and we changed the location. I will come back every year to do so, until we pass H.R. 676 and everybody has access to medicare. However, I hope that I won’t have to attend next year and hat we can change the way we do healthcare in America.

Hello from our nation’s capital. I am here in Washington D.C. with my SiCKO sister Donna Smith. We are here to kick off the Healthcare Justice Week. This week people all around this nation are taking the issue of healthcare to the streets. They are marching , the are holding vigils, but most importantly they are speaking out!

Tomorrow, the 22nd of September, there will be some protesting going on here in D.C. There will be a candlelight vigil in memory for those who lost their lives due to our broken healthcare system.

County Commission Candidate Gets Top Endorsement

It's easy for candidates to get endorsements from people who don't know them very well -- answer a few questions the right way, figure out their hot button issues and zero in on those and you're in.

But when somebody knows a candidate really, really well, who has seen them in all kinds of situations, endorses them, that says something.

Especially when it's your kid.

Adrian Campbell Montgomery of Hartland, Democratic candidate for Livingston County Commissioner in the third district, has put together an adorable ad featuring her daughter, Aurora, advocating for her mom's candidacy.

It's cute -- especially when Aurora flashes the Michigan-mitten. And it's also accurate. Adrian will do a great job!



Adrian was featured in Michael Moore's movie on health care, Sicko. Her story about her health care provider's refusal to pay for her cancer treatment because she was too young brings audiences to tears. Even 8th Congressional District candidate Bob Alexander nearly broke down after hearing her talk about her experience at a recent Barack Obama Campaign for Change rally in Livingston County.

Adrian has pledged, if elected, not to take the free health care that Livingston County lavishes on its part-time commissioners.

Sick, Sick, Sick System

America's health system is sick, sick, sick, according to a Livingston Democrat running for county commissioner from Hartland.

Adrian Campbell Montgomery, who was featured in Michael Moore's film on American health care Sicko, appeared in a recent edition of Laura Flanders' Show on GritTV to talk about comparisons between the American system and the Canadian one.

Adrian does a fine job in this clip of explaining how, without health care coverage from her employer, she went to Canade for health care when her daughter was sick. But Adrian isn't through with the health care issue.

She is the Michigan organizer for a National Day of Health Insurance Protest on Thursday (June 19, 2006) at 3 p.m. outside the Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan Building, 500 E. Lafayette Blvd., Detroit. The goal is to bring attention to legislation for a single payer health care system, HR 676, or Medicare for All.

"It is time to end profits on people's lives!" Adrian says.

Livingston Democratic Candidates Shine in Spotlight

Livingston County-area media are finding Democratic candidates to be notable and quotable. At least two candidates have been featured in area newspapers within the last week.

Anna Ernst, a candidate for trustee in Green Oak Township, was quoted in the Livingston Press and Argus on Thursday (May 22, 2008) about the land deal that has been making headlines in that township for months. Ernst pointed out that the current crop of trustees has been far too secretive about the process, making it impossible for the public to trust them.

And Adrian Campbell Montgomery of Hartland, a candidate for county commissioner in District 3, was featured in the Flint Journal on Saturday (May 24, 2008). The focus of the article was her brief role in the Michael Moore film on health care, Sicko, and decision by Meijer's to fire her because of it. Adrian explains how the experience has politicized her. Adrian recently returned from New York, where she taped a segment for the Laura Flanders TV show.

Local 'Sicko' Figure and County Candidate to Be on Talk Show

Democratic County Commissioner Candidate Adrian Campbell Montgomery is headed to New York!

Montgomery, of Hartland, already is well-known for being featured in Michigan native Michael Moore's film on health care, Sicko, in which she said she goes to Canada to get health care. She was fired from her job at Meijer's as a result.

But when it comes to getting out the message about the need for health care, Montgomery has not been intimidated.

This Thursday (May 22, 2008), Montgomery heads to New York for a taping of the Laura Flanders talk show on Grit TV, which airs on DishTV.
