The Livingston County Democratic Party will kick off its new film series on May 26 with the showing of what some film critics have called one of the most important movies of our time – former Vice President Al Gore’s documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth.”

The Academy Award-winning film on climate change will be screened in two showings on May 26 at Livingston County Democratic Party headquarters, 10321 E. Grand River, Suite 600, Fonda Place, in Brighton.

“Vice President Gore’s documentary lays out a compelling case for the need to address the production of green-house gases, but he does it in a way that anyone can understand,” said Matt Evans, chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party.

“That’s why we are encouraging people to bring their families to these special showings of ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’ Movie reviewer Roger Ebert probably said it best when he wrote that ‘you owe it to yourself to see this film.’ We owe it to our children, too.”

Ebert was not the only critic to lavish praise on the movie. Jeffrey Lyons, of NBC’s “Reel Talk,” said the film, which won an Oscar in February for best documentary, is “one of the most important films of our time.”

The Livingston County Democratic Party will have a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m., with the movie shown beginning at 7:30 p.m. The party is requesting a donation of $10 a person or $15 a couple, with children under 16 free with an adult.

The late showing will begin at 9:30 p.m., with popcorn provided. The donation for the second show is $3 per person.

Evans said the party hopes to offer more socially-important films in the future at prices that will allow families to enjoy “dinner and a movie” together at an affordable price.
