Rogers Chickens Out of Gubernatorial Primary

Don't be fooled by that stuff about not wanting to put his two young children through a statewide race. And don't swallow that baloney about how he's too busy looking out for your jobs to worry about his own.

Mike Rogers was thinking about nobody's welfare but his own when he decided not to enter the Republican gubernatorial primary for 2010.

The fact is, the 8th District Republican looked at the potential competition and decided his name and being from a Republican County like Livingston (with signs put up on public property by his friends) weren't going to be enough to guarantee him the nomination.

And with two other Republican members of Congress in the running, how was he going to stand out? By arguing he voted "No" more times than they did?

Boy you folks are bitter. If you are representative of your party, then I hope the party fails. It's always attacks and name-calling with you.

Let's see, you thought it was terrible when Rogers was going to run for governor and now you say he's a chicken when he doesn't run.

No matter what he says, you call him a liar.

But somehow he manages to take a large share of the Livingston County votes every time he runs. So does that mean you think most Livingston County voters are stupid?

Are you to "chicken" to say that? It's easier to slam one person...Rogers...than to criticize the people who keep returning him to office. Is that it?

Geez, for a member of your party, you sure sound like you don't have much use for the democratic process.

You disagree with him and his policies. Fine. But does that make him a liar and a chicken? Bill Clinton was a liar. Repeatedly. What should we make of that?

Mike Rogers studied the option and chose not to run. And you slam him for that.

I'm still waiting for your rant about how Hillary Clinton voted to send American soldiers to die in a war we shouldn't have fought. Your type blames Bush for it constantly, but Hillary is never held accountable for her vote.

Why is that?

We don'tlike Mike Rogers.
We don't think he has represented us well.
Get over it, we probably would not like you too much either.

didnt i read somewhere that Roger's ex wife and kids now live in california?

What is your point about the location of his ex-wife and kids?

Maybe I should ask where Debbie Stabenow's husband is tonight. Chance are, she doesn't know. But there might be a 19-year-old hooker who could tell us where he is.

As to anonymous...i have no problem with you not liking Mike Rogers or with your opinion on how well he has represented us. That's a fair opinion and a far cry from calling him a chicken.

Do you not like the majority of voters who keep putting him in office? Get some courage and publicly saying that people who vote for Mike are stupid or chicken or whatever. If you won't do that, then I have to wonder who the real chickens are?

Mike does not have statewide appeal and should stay where he continues to have support. While I disagree with the majority of his votes, he continues to win here in the 8th.
If he wants to maintain employment, he should stay in the 8th.
I think Terri Lynn Land will be the Republican candidate for Governor.

I'd be surprised if Terri Lynn Land got the nomination but it is surely a possibility. It would give the republicans a female candidate and she can at least give the appearance of a professional, dignified candidate.

I think she's done a good job at secretary of state, but I'd be first to say I really have little to back that up. And I have no idea about her political stance...republican, of course, but reasonable or rightwing? I couldn't say. A couple of times that I met her, she seemed more reasonable than rightwing. As such, she might not get past the primary.

Because I am not a Republican I could be way off, but I think she could be a strong Republican candidate. I thought the Republicans were going to pick Mitt Romney, so what do I know?
After the first time I heard DeVos speak I knew our Governor was going to beat him, no question about it.
If a person can't articulate with conviction and clarity what they stand for, they are not going to win a statewide race in Michigan.

I don't think we disagree that much, Bluzie. I think she could be a strong candidate in November...but first she has to win the Republican nomination. Of course, there is still a long way to go.
