Stimulus or…
More Tax Breaks for the Rich?
Crumbs for the Middle Class?
And Screw the Unemployed?

President Bush, this time abetted by a Democratic House, is once again stealing from the middle class and poor and giving more public money to himself and his rich buddies.

The same fellow who made millions off the Texas Rangers by manipulating subsidies and tax monies with the help of Daddy’s friends, is ready to raid the Treasury again.

Bush has finally realized what the citizens have known for some time – we are in a recession and possibly heading for a depression that could be worse than the sufferings of the 1930’s.Why did Bush finally wake up? Because Wall Street rang the alarm. He ignored the deficit, the draining of our lives and treasure in Iraq, the bankruptcies, the sub-prime mortgages. When his Wall Street friends, however, tell the President that he has to do something about the economy because the markets tanking, Bush finally listened.

So you and I may get something like $300-600 in rebates and we are supposed to spend it right away. This won’t take long – a couple trips to the gas station should do it. The major tax cuts, however, will go to the same people who benefited from 5 previous tax cuts. The excuse given is that this will incent the robber barons to invest in the United States and create jobs and businesses. These same people have shell companies in the Caymun Islands to avoid our taxes. What kind of fools do our politicians think we are?

Meanwhile, Bush refuses to extend unemployment benefits and food stamps. He only wants to help “workers”. His cruel, mean-spirited attitudes reflect his lack of conscience and his inability to understand that if there aren’t any jobs, “workers” will be unemployed.

The Stimulus Plan is in the Senate now. Senators are planning to add programs that help the unemployed and poor. Give them a call and encourage them to add the important benefits for the unemployed.

Oh, and while you’re talking to them, tell your Senators to support Senator Dodd who plans to filibuster the FISA bill again so that the Telcom companies will not be given immunity for wire-tapping.

Senator Debbie Stabenow – 202 224-4822

Senator Carl Levin – 202 224-6221

Would someone please explain why this country encourages education and success, but as soon as someone achieves financial independence they become the bad guy and Democrats want to take more of their money? Honestly, do you really think that every person with a $450k+ annual income has offshore accounts to hide money? I'm taxed so heavily that I can barely afford a trip to the Cayman's let alone a bank account to avoid paying taxes. Sure some probably do it, but when you work hard to get to the point of earning this kind of income and the government wants to take a larger portion of it from you than they do from most everyone else, wouldn't you want to protect what you EARNED?

I struggled, saved, scrimped, and sacrificed to get a degree to get a good job. I owe more than $100k in school loans and pay more in taxes than most families make. Why on earth should I have to pay for the poor or for those who didn't get an education to develop a desirable skill set? I invest smart, save smart, put a LOT of money into the community, and donate a fair share.

What happened in this country that gives poor people entitlement to my hard earned money? It is the bleeding heart liberals that think the poor are pathetic victims of the rich? That what you sound like.

I was a young-poor single Mom on welfare and Section 8 housing assistance when I made the decision to do something about it. Most people are not victims of society. I alone made the stupid choices that got me into that situation, just like everyone else makes their own choices... I chose the guy who decided to leave when I got pregnant... I chose to have unprotected sex... I chose to get pregnant at 19 and take a job as a waitress and it wasn't because a high paying executive job wasn't available - I didn't have the skills for a higher paying job!

Thank goodness government assistance programs barely helped because being so desperately poor motivated me to do something about it. I chose to develop a skill set instead of working as an unskilled laborer living paycheck to paycheck (e.g., waitress, factory worker, secretary, receptionist, etc) and blaming the government for my poor choices. Why don't Democrats feel people should be held accountable for their own choices?

Despite having a learning disability, being a single Mom, no vehicle, no money, and at one point living in a homeless shelter, I chose to make things better instead of gripe to the government for more hand-outs. I started college and it was hard and I had everything against me. But, had I not made the decisions that I made to get out of that poor situation, I would probably still be collecting food stamps and Medicaid and the Democrats like you would feel sorry for me. Then they would figure out ways to take money from financially successful people to give to poor people like me (as if I was entitled to their money just because I was poor). Then, they'd blame the Republicans for not providing me with a higher paying job to earn a living wage. This absurd thinking makes me want to leave the Democratic party.

Now that I am financially self-sufficient I'm considered the bad guy (girl). The more I make, the less I'm allowed to keep. But the less I make, the more I'm entitled to hand-outs. Where's the rationale in that? Why is being financial successful treated like a crime in this country with the punishment being that you don't get to keep your money?

You are really doing this country a disservice with the exaggerated rants about Republicans causing the economic problems. Have you taken a look at Michigan lately? It's absurd that Democrats blame republicans for the the Stat'es woes instead of blaming the govenor regardless of her party affiliation.

What happened to the Democratic party... seems to be a lot of talk that the government is supposed to help everyone and not hold them even partially accountable for their own economic woes... isn't that socialism?

I figure that most Democrats are poor and have no idea what it is like to work hard for something only to have it taken away.

You make me want to be a Republican. I think I'll look into it.
