Bad News, Good News on Monthly Stats

When it comes to traffic on Living Blue, this month's report is a good news/bad news situation.

First the bad news. With the election over, visits to the blog in November dropped 29.19 percent compared to October. That's not surprising since there is less political news to comment on. On the plus side, time on the site spent by visitors is up 27.16 percent and the average number of pages viewed are also up 4.9 percent.

Visitors came from 35 countries and territories, from 47 U.S. states, and from 114 cities within Michigan.

Compared to November a year ago, however, total visitors are up 159 percent and pageviews are up 157.28 percent. Unique visitors are up 173.11 percent.

That's enough to keep us motivated to blog.

Still Growing and Growing and Growing

The month of October ended a while ago, but I was a little tied up, what with having to help out with a historic election and all. So I'm a little late reporting on our monthly stats.

Our monthly stats, like interest in the Democratic Party, is way up. Total visits were up 19.92 percent over September. Unique visitors were up 29.78 percent. And those who came to the site viewed 12.53 percent more pages.

Visitors came from 43 countries and territories. Those from within the U.S. came from 47 states and territories. Only people from North and South Dakota, Arkansas, and Vermont shunned us. Michigan visitors alone were up 33.16 percent. They represented 105 cities within the state.

The election is over, but the news goes on -- a new administration in Washington, a new legislative session in Lansing, and on-going politicking.

So stick around.

All the numbers are heading in the right direction. Let's keep them that way through Nov. 4!

Still Growing, and Growing, and Growing...

It's the end of the month and time to brag a little bit again.

Living Blue showed continued growth in July. Visits were up 9.98 percent, and page views were up 19.07 percent over the month of June.

Living Blue continues to attract attention from other liberal sites, as referrals from other sites were up 29.44 percent. Michigan Liberal and blogger.com helped funnel readers our way.

Our visitors came from 20 countries and territories around the world. From within the U.S., people from 39 states stopped by.

Michigan readers, of course, are our mainstay. Traffic from within the state came from 98 different cities and was up 15.8 percent over June.

We must be doing something right!

March Stats Still on the Upswing -- Is GOP Chair Helping?

All that wintery weather that kept Michigan residents indoors last month had one bright spot -- it gave people more time to check out our posts on Living Blue.

Total visits to our site during the month of March were up 15.63 percent, but that's deceiving since February has only 29 days compared to March's 31. More accurate is the per day average, which was still up a healthy 8.17 percent.

New visits were up 3.93 percent, while unique visitors were up 18.83 percent. And they came to us from 19 countries and territories, led by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia.

Of the United States' portion, 39 states sent visitors our way. Michigan was tops, reporting a 22.31 percent increase in visitors. Arizona, California, New York, and Florida rounded out the top five states in total visitors.

Among our top traffic sources are searches on Google and our friends at Michigan Liberal.

The Google searches are particularly interesting. People often search for the words "Livingston County Democrats Michigan" to find us.

But some people have a tendency to find us by searching for the name "Allan Filip."

Why would people come to us by searching for the name of the Livingston County Republican Party chair?

Allan, are you googling yourself?

Goodbye, February!

February is behind us and none to soon. After weeks of cold and snow, the temperature Monday (March 3,2008) is almost up to 50 degrees in Brighton.

But before we say goodbye to all the bluster of February, we need to take a minute to look at how the blog did over the month.

January, of course, was an off-the-charts month because of all the interest in Michigan's presidential primary. So rather than compare with that month, we'll compare with the more typical December.

Visits to the blog for the entire month of February were up 57 percent compared to December, even though February had two fewer days. The per-day average also was up --68 percent. Unique visitors were up 83 percent. In February, 64 percent of our readers were new visitors, up from 55 percent in December.

During February, Living Blue attracted visitors from 20 countries and territories, including Canada, the Philippines, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Within the United States, visitors came from 40 states. Michigan, of course, led the list, followed by California, Arizona, New York, Illinois, the District of Columbia, Florida, Texas, Colorado, and New Jersey.

Among the no-shows on the roll call of states are places like Idaho, North Dakota, and Colorado. Those I can understand, but I would have thought we'd have attracted somebody's attention in Maine by now.

Within Michigan, our readers came from 75 cities, topped by Brighton. The Lansing area provides a steady supply of visitors, with readers not only from Lansing, but also Okemos, East Lansing, and Eaton Rapids.

Thanks to the folks at Michigan Liberal and Lefty Blogs for their frequent links to us.

Stay tuned, folks. There's a lot more to come!

Growing, Growing, Growing

What if you published a blog a nobody read it? It can happen, but not at Living Blue.

A comparison for the months of December and January, based on statistics from Google Analytics, shows Living Blue is off to a great start to 2008.

Helped no doubt by interest in the not-so-perfect Michigan presidential primary, visits to Living Blue were up 216 percent in January compared to the previous month. And unique visitors were up even more -- 306 percent.

Visitors to the site came from 24 countries -- including Togo. Most visitors were from the U.S., of course. Living Blue attracted readers from 41 states -- led by Michigan, but followed by New York, California, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, D.C., Texas, and Ohio.

And our Michigan visitors came from 138 cities, up from just 84 a month ago.

Many of our readers find us using search engines, but our friends at Michigan Liberal and Lefty Blogs also send many our way.

There are plenty of politics ahead in 2008 and we'll try to keep you posted.
