Hamburg just went through a nasty primary, a three-way general election, and now there's talk of a recall of newly-elected Township Clerk Matt Skiba.
Skiba told the Livingston Press and Argus for a story in Friday's edition (Dec. 12, 2008) that he expects a recall petition drive to begin.
Could we let the ink drive on the Board of Canvassers' report on the election results first? Shouldn't there be a limit to how soon you can recall a just-elected official?
Democracy is a great thing, but we can have too much of a great thing.
The suggestion of a recall attempt was part of a much larger story -- the rehash of the allegedly obscene gesture made by Skiba's deputy.

The local press is still carrying water for the Hardesty folks.
They endorsed her without even conducting an editorial board interview with the Democratic candidate for Hamburg Township Clerk.
They did not have the Democratic candidate for clerk listed on their online voters guide.
They pushed and pushed for Hardesty and now they continue.
I for one want to know why?
How can they claim one ounce of fairness, when their process completely ignored Debby Buckland?
I don't understand it either. It certainly diminishes their credibility.
They are so openly biased, having Tom Walsh be their point person is foolish.
Before long they will be consulting with Mary Ann Lambkins!

An elected official has to do something "worthy" of a recall. I do not think that anything so far published in the paper is of substance enough to get it signed to go forward. If Skiba keeps his nose clean he'll be ok.

Ignorance isn't a crime - it lacks intent. If ignorance was a crime the whole prior board would be in jail for taking on illegal loans.
Skiba will learn and certainly has demonstrated more transparency in his few short months than the prior clerk did over many years.
